Catrina Davies Gig: Live Music, EP Launch and Book Signing

When Catrina Davies’ first book, ‘The Ribbons Are For Fearlessness’, a personal account of busking across Europe, was bought by Summersdale for publication in March 2014, her unusual response was to begin recording a soundtrack. The result is the RIBBONS EP, a unique and captivating blend of folk, rocksteady, cuban and pop, recorded in a granite pigshed and produced by Richard Blackborow, front man of cult indie band BOB. Since she started performing her songs locally, Catrina Davies has been in great demand, her voice as heartfelt and engaging to the ear as it is on the page. As a singer-songwriter, DJ and cellist, Catrina has performed at countless events and festivals including Glastonbury, Port Eliot, The Secret Garden Party and Knockengorroch. The RIBBONS EP is her first record and will be promoted alongside and within her book, which deals with themes of love, loss, surfing and philosophy. The six original tracks, which both complement the book and stand alone, are written and sung by Catrina, who also plays cello and
guitar. A bevy of talented musicians join her on the EP, including Stephen Large, Musical Director for pop artists Rebecca Ferguson and Duffy, and keyboard-player for the legendary US soul group Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Lucy Shaw, who plays double bass with Chroma Ensemble, Tango Siempre, Katie Melua and Bat for Lashes and Jake Painter, trumpet player for Captain Ska, an infectious synth-reggae attack on the coalition government. The EP was mixed in Australia by Michael Stavrou, who has worked with Paul MacCartney and John Williams. Catrina will be touring the ook and EP, with a mix of reading and singing, throughout Spring and Summer 2014, with venues confirmed in Cornwall, Exeter, Totnes, Bath and London.
